WRITING WORKSHOP WITH MEDITATION

Writing is a powerful tool for self development, self expression, and self confidence. It is no coincidence that in times gone by slaves were forbidden from learning to read and write – the potential for empowerment and change was dangerous and real. 

So, words are transformative – they shape our thinking, which in turn shapes the way we live. With this as our premise, this workshop will explore the potential of writing both as a form of therapy, and as a creative outlet. The two are often very much interlinked.

Exercises will include working with written affirmations, using free writing to dive into the subconscious and escape the inner censor, and playing with language, rhythm and rhyme to spark ideas for stories, poems and more.

The workshop will start with meditation as a way of calming the mind before starting to write, drawing on the Zen Buddhist practice of sitting and walking meditation, and combining this with writing exercises.

This is as much about becoming intimate with one’s own raw, unedited voice, as it is about creating new material – participants are encouraged to bring a curious mind, and a large notepad with plenty of space.

Spaces are limited to 16 people.

The workshop runs from 10:30 – 3pm and includes a delicious vegetarian lunch.
