WHY ARE WE HERE?
This question can have a very simple answer: we are here because the universe is the way it is. But can science explain the extraordinary fact that the universe appears to be so spectacularly well designed for our own existence? This talk will try to outline the current approaches to this fundamental question from the physical and cosmological points of view.
Marite Mehr: Marite has a PhD in theoretical physics from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. She worked in the field of elementary particles for several years – first, in Argentina at the Atomic Energy Commission in Buenos Aires and, later, in Germany, at the Institute for Heavy Ions Research in Darmstadt. In 1988, she began work at BASF – The Chemical Company – in Ludwigshafen, where she mainly developed statistical methods for modelling chemical processes. In 1998, she moved to Sao Paolo, Brazil, as Quality Management and Operational Excellence Director for South America. She is currently retired, lives in Marbella and hold seminars twice a year on Process Optimization for university scholarship holders in Berlin.
