CHARCO DE LA VIRGEN – TOLOX
Although this needs an extra half hour’s drive to the start of the walk, the drive is scenic, and the walk, although shorter than usual, is well worth it.
This out-and-back walk starts at the Fuente Amargosa Health Spa (the bitter fountain Spa, used by people with chronic breathing problems).
The route passes several crop meadows watered by Nazari water canals.
Suitable footwear is advisable as there will be at least four crossings over the river Los Caballos and one of its streams called the Palmarejo. There are numerous stepping stones when crossing, so special care needs to be taken. A beautiful waterfall flows into the La Virgen pool at a curve very near the end of the walk. The surrounding mountains are covered in pine trees.
