ISTAN – ERIMTA DE SAN MIGUEL – NEW WALK

This is a circular walk leading down from the starting point to the edge of Lake Concepcion on a path, that is rocky in places but there is shade in certain parts. The path continues beside the lake, which can be difficult if the river leading to the lake is in full flow, which is not at this time of year. At the endpoint, there is a point where it is needed to climb up to get to the path leading up to Istan. This path is a short climb, rocky in places, up into the village of Istan. The views down the valley are wonderful with the sea and Marbella in the distance. There are viewing stops in the village and the path passes behind the newly opened Altos de Istan Hotel. Following the ridge with views towards Ojen and Calahonda, the path descends to the walk's starting point. Again, viewpoints towards the end of the walk can be explored. Walking boots are a must and walking poles are advisable.

From Marbella:

From the A-7 take the exit just after the tunnel to Istan A-7176, at the roundabout take 1st right, and again at the next roundabout take the 1st exit, signed and posted to Istan. Follow this road for 9.4 km following signs to Istan until reaching the parking area on the right-hand side. This is the meeting point.
