ISTÁN – PUERTO DE LOS BARRACONES

Beginning at the Hotel Altos de Istán, the route follows Moorish irrigation channels and then heads north along a good road for about 4 Km. There is a stopping point where walkers can admire the wonderful views over the valley before leaving the road to turn down a path through orange groves and back towards the village. About 2 km from the village the route becomes a narrow track and passes over a stream by a wooden bridge before climbing a short but exceedingly sharp incline back into Istán. This part will be taken gently. The walk finishes in the Plaza where any refreshment will be well deserved.

Directions to the Meeting Place

From Marbella

Take the A7116 road to Istán. On entering the village, take the right fork (there is a sign to the Hotel). After 150 m, at the bend, turn right towards Piscina Municipal. Drive up the hill, past the sports complex. After a further 200m, the hotel is on the right-hand side. Park in the carpark which is just before the hotel.
