This is a relatively short but challenging walk to the summit of la Cruz de Juanar (1.070 m) with fabulous far reaching views on a clear day.

Leaving from the unmade road beyond El Refugio, the walk turns right by the abandoned hunting observatory, then through forest until it forks left and climbs to a saddle. Up until this point the path is the same as the walk to La Concha.

From the saddle the route turns left and climbs steeply up the west side of the mountain. At the summit there are great south-westerly views across to Gibraltar and Africa, with the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains to the east often being visible too. The knee-crunching descent is on the east side of the peak back down to Juanar. Walking poles are recommended for this section of the walk.

There are frequently large numbers of processionary caterpillars in the pine forests around Juanar at this time of year so, in the interests of safety, dogs are not allowed on this walk.
