OJÉN – UPPER RIO REAL VALLEY
The walk starts from outside the Restaurante Gau-Txori in Ojén, passes the ancient grain threshing floors (Las Eras) and then descends steeply to cross the Rio Real.
A long and steady climb follows, firstly on tarmac roads and then well made gravel tracks, past the Charco Las Viñas bathing pool, the public cemetery and then into the forest above. The path eventually levels out with fine views of Ojén, the peaks arounf Juanar and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.
After descending the narrow Paquillo El Ceporro path the route recrosses the Rio Real by a makeshift bridge and returns to Ojén on an undulating road past orchards and farmhouses. Refreshments can then be taken at the bar where the walk started.
Directions to the Meeting Place
Restaurante Gau-Txori is situated on Calle Carretera (A7103) which is the upper road in Ojén close to the well signposted caves.
Approaching from Marbella, take the A355 main road that climbs past La Cañada in the direction of Monda and Coín. Leave this road at the first signpost for Ojén and descend into the town on the A7103. Continue straight on at a large elongated roundabout (do not turn right down to the old town) past the Repsol station on the right and then the public car park and Ojén caves on the left. The road broadens here and there is usually plenty of street parking (free) in front of the various bars and restaurants on the left.
