Part One by Chris Horton

After nearly forty years in the industry Chris Horton will give a brief introduction to the field of Non Destructive Testing, its applications, limitations and an overview of the main methods of inspection, including radiography, ultrasound, magnetic particles and other methods used both in heavy industry and aerospace.

Part two;  Stella Evolution – The Life Cycles of Stars by Colin Gearon

This talk will attempt to explain the stages of evolution of stars of various sizes and masses from the moments of Star Birth from a cloud of dust and gas through the contraction of the former to form multiple stars of various masses.  The talk goes on to explain how the mass effects their subsequent development through the main sequence lifetimes and what happens to them at the closing stages of their life cycle.

The talk will also touch on the development of other astronomical bodies such as neutron stars, pulsars and black holes.

We will avoid detailed analysis of the physics involved but will attempt to provide a broad brush explanation to some of the processes that have led to the development of our own star The Sun and our Solar System.
