Wikiloc links are being added to all walks for U3A International.
Wikiloc for iphone and Android, is the outdoor navigation App (using GPS) that lets you track and follow 8 million plus hiking trails linked to Google maps.
Use of the link on each U3A International walk will enable you to view more details about the walk such as the whole route on the map, the degree of difficulty including a visual of the elevations and where our charted stops are for sightseeing or regeneration of the mind, body and spirit.
With the Wikiloc App on your phone you are able to download a map for live route guidance on the day. This particular facility will, however, require the payment of a €4.99 annual fee to Wikiloc. The App is easy to use. Once you have the route for the walk, all you need to do is follow the blue dot, using the gps of your phone only. When your data is switched off it does not use your phone credit. You can also use the GPX Viewer App.
Should you choose to download a route it could be very enjoyable and helpful on the day of the walk with U3A International. The route will remain in your app and will therefore be available to you for future use.
