THE FUTURE OF WORK: CHALLENGE AND POLICY RESPONSE
Eddy Lee is a former Economic Adviser (Chief Economist ) to the International Labour Office in Geneva. He studied at Magdalen College, Oxford and obtained the degrees of B.Phil and D. Phil in Economics.
He has published widely on issues relating to economic development, income distribution and poverty reduction, the social impact of globalisation and labour market and employment policies.
In this lecture of broad interest Eddy will speak concerning the effects that new technology has already made in the labour workplace and how the effects of robots and other computerised methods are likely to affect it even more as well as mankind in the future. In particular Eddy will explore the challenges facing policy makers and how society will be forced to make changes as a result of this upheaval.
Eddy has travelled the world on UN missions and has a first-hand knowledge of this subject worldwide and will speak about the possible adjustments needed to meet the likely challenges, with a workplace effected by new technologies in the field of computers and robots, that is likely to aspect upon everyone’s lives. Taken together these changes are likely to result not only in the huge changes in the employment market but also in the quality of any remaining jobs.
This promises to be an exciting and interesting lecture and is bound to bring to mind an idea of what the future holds not only for us but more so for our children and grandchildren.
