There have always been popular walks in this area because of the stunning views of the Angosturas Gorge and Guadalmina River. The walks along the aqueducts are both peaceful and picturesque. An experience that should not be missed and a very good first walk of the season.
Easy to Medium
This is a circular walk leading down from the starting point to the edge of Lake Concepcion on a good path with shade in certain parts. The path leads on to the Lake bed which is easy to walk on, with just a small amount of water running along in the river. At a certain point, the river bank is crossed to the path leading up to Istan. This path is a short steep climb, rocky in places, which leads onto a wide concrete and dirt road into the village of Istan. The views down the valley are wonderful with the sea and Marbella in the distance. There are viewing stops in the village and the path passes behind the newly opened Altos de Istan Hotel. Following the ridge with views towards Ojen and Calahonda, the path descends to the walk’s starting point.
Medium
The first 20 mins of this walk follow a shady forest path, with small rocks in places, that becomes increasingly steep before reaching a wide unmade road. However, it does ascend to a wider path which becomes a very pleasant and easier country walk.
Medium
This is a circular walk taking you through a couple of dark tunnels then passing through an area with mostly trees, groves, with views over the valley, the mountains and the areas around Ojén. Passing through the Cerezal Nature Reserve.
Medium
The walk is in the Rio Grande Valley close to Tolox where the river is still small. It follows a dirt track past pomegranate and orange trees and also olive groves. There are some hills and after rain there may be a couple of easy streams to cross.
Medium
This walk is located behind La Mairena and from the starting point this is a very pleasant country walk with fantastic scenery all around but there are some extended uphill sections leading up from the valley, fairly steep in places. There are many view spots where it is possible to stop and take in the views. This walk is on a good wide track easy to walk and without any difficulties underfoot.
Medium
A very scenic country walk initially until we reach the Alaminos river and then the path becomes a steady single-file hill climb up the Loma Canalizo until reaching the Puerto Canalizo. Great views of the Mijas coast and Sierra de Mijas. This is a loop walk returning back to where we started.
Medium to Heavy
This walk starts at the El Mirador Hotel, winds up through the Camino Forestal in with views over the valley ending up at Forest Guard’s house. Most of this walk is in the shade of the pine trees and not too difficult ending back at the hotel for Christmas refreshments and tapas on the outside terrace. The first part is a steady climb that is not strenuous and loops around at a higher level.
