This lecture builds on the previous topic of last semester namely ‘Sub Atomic Particles’ and the ‘Standard Model of Particle Physics’, although attendance at that is not a requirement. This lecture examines the need for high energies and attempts to explain some of the unanswered questions that still exist despite the rigour of the Standard Model. There will also be an indication of what progress has so far been made in their resolution by the use of huge Particle Accelerators and Detectors around the world such as those at CERN and FERMI LAB to name but two.
