THE HISTORY OF ICE CREAM AND ITS MANUFACTURE THROUGH THE AGES UP TO THE PRESENT DAY
Paul Sidoli is a member of the long established Sidoli Ice Cream producers based in Ebbw Vale,South Wales.
His family have been producing ice cream there since 1922 when Benedetto (“Ben”) Sidoli, an Italian immigrant from Bardi, began making small batches of vanilla ice cream behind his café.
By the 1950s, Sidoli’s was producing several flavours as well as ice lollies and packaged ice cream, and its products became increasingly well known throughout South Wales.
Sidoli’s remained a family-run enterprise, passing through four generations. Today it produces more than 50 varieties of ice cream and sorbet, using locally sourced milk and double cream alongside traditional Italian ice-cream-making methods. The company has also won numerous national industry awards, including prizes from the Ice Cream Alliance.
Paul will use his knowledge of his family’s business to outline the history of ice cream and its manufacture through the ages up to the present day.
He will also provide some tasting samples of bad grade and good grade ice cream.
