SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE ARCHITECTURE OF THE RECONQUISTA

The Christian kingdom’s conquering of territories from Al-Andalus took several centuries throughout the entire peninsula. The architecture that developed during the years of the ‘Reconquista’ show the influence of both Islamic Spain and northern France with the fully-fledged Gothic style. The blend of styles makes this period of the architectural development of Spain unique from the rest of Europe.

The period covered in this presentation starts at the 8th century finishing in 1492 with the conquer of Granada.  An explanation of the regional differences will take place as well as the the analysis of the most relevant examples throughout Spain and Portugal.
