THE UN-ACCIDENTAL LANDLORD, TENANTS AND THEIR IDIOSYNCRASIES
Having created and sold many properties, it eventually seemed like a good idea to keep a few and become a landlord. After all, how difficult could it be?
Chris Brown is back and, in his customary informative and entertaining way, will outline the trials and tribulations of being a Landlord.
The owner has a property, a tenant is found, they pay the rent — and everyone lives happily ever after. Well… not quite.
Being a landlord is considerably more complicated than simply collecting the rent. There are rules, regulations and legislation to understand and comply with, repairs and maintenance to deal with, and an ever-growing list of responsibilities that come with owning someone else’s home. But the biggest difference is this:- a landlord is no longer just dealing with bricks and mortar. A landlord is dealing with PEOPLE.
There are the unexpected situations, the difficult conversations, the genuine emergencies — and, occasionally, the stories that you simply couldn’t invent. Ultimately, being a landlord is about much more than managing property. It’s about managing relationships, expectations and, sometimes, people’s lives.
And just as in property development, you quickly discover that:
Life is never simple
It’s people who make it complicated.
Chris has previously presented his experiences as a President of a Community in Spain, property development and on his extensive travels.
