LA BOLA DE MIJAS

This walk tracks through a pine forest at AlhaurÍn El Grande.

The walk is along a forest track, weaving through the forest to the top of La Bola. The ground underfoot is varied from rocky paths, where some easy scrambling is required, to steep and sandy crops towards the top. The views en route are stunning. It´s a linear walk with a continuous climb passing the Casa Forestal to the top where there will be a stop for a break before the knee-numbing descent and a well deserved coffee/beer at the Mirador Hotel. (As there will be photo opportunities on the way up, there will be stops from time to time to absorb the views and take a short breather.)

Directions to the Meeting Place:

From the meeting place at El Mirador there will be a car share to the start point to walk to the top of La Bola.

Hotel El Mirador is 1.5km out of Alhaurín el Grande on the A404 which goes to Alhaurín de la Torre past Lauro Golf.

Coming from the airport one goes past Churriana and Alhaurín de la Torre on the A404 keeping the hill to one’s left and the hotel is 5 mins after passing Lauro Golf.

Coming from Marbella on the A355, turn off at the signpost for Coín & Mijas and go right 6km along the A366 towards Mijas until the roundabout at Venta Los Morales (& the A7053 from Fuengirola)

Turn left at the roundabout towards Alhaurín el Grande, after 2km turn right at a small roundabout by an Official Tobacco shop, up the hill, along the top keeping straight all the time until a roundabout at Parque de la Libertad where you go left down hill for 100 meters. At the bottom at the roundabout with a Cross on it go right in direction of Alhaurin de la Torre & Malága, past the shops and restaurants & the Hotel El Mirador is 1.5km along the A404 after the BP garage at the end of the village. There is ample parking space and a nice terrace for coffee & drinks.
