MANILVA – EL CANUTO AND LOS BAÑOS DE LA HEDIONDA
Walk
This is a circular walk that climbs up through the superb karstic canyon, El Canuto de la Utrera, before crossing heathland and then returning along the beautiful Ruta de los Molinos which runs alongside the Rio de Manilva. Towards the end of the walk there will be an opportunity to cool off in the Baños de la Hedionda. This tiny spa, fed by a naturally sulphurous spring, was reputedly visited by Julius Caesar.

CALA DE MIJAS TO RIVIERA PLAYA
Walk
This walk goes west from the Torre de la Bateria along the sendero litoral towards Riviera Playa. Much of the route is by boardwalk, affording pleasant views of this interesting part of the coast. Refreshments will be taken at the chiringuito ‘El Juncal’ at Rivera Playa before the return.

EL CAMORRO – ENTRERRIOS, MIJAS
Walk
This walk is at the back of La Cala-Mijas which starts with a steady uphill climb to Cerro del Camorro to a point that then becomes a circular walk on a good path leading around the mountain. There are really good views towards Calahonda and Ojen and also down to La Cala-Mijas. We return back down the uphill section.

MONDA CIRCUIT
Walk
A circular walk across farmland and open countryside around Monda with splendid mountain views. The route sets out past the Monda castle (now a hotel) towards the former Gun and Country Club before returning to Monda via an old mule trail.

LAGUNA VILLAGE TO ESTEPONA
Walk
This walk is from Laguna Village to Estepona paseo maritimo and return, using the boardwalk and bridge connecting Laguna Village to the Kempinski Hotel. Many urbanisations and hotels having connected their properties to the boardwalk makes for interesting views. The walk continues along the boardwalk at the back of Carrefour into Estepona and continues along the Paseo Maritimo to the first chiringuito open where refreshments can be taken. The return is by the same route.

TOLOX – RIO GRANDE
Walk
The walk is in the Rio Grande Valley close to Tolox where the river is still small. It follows a dirt track past pomegranate and orange trees and also olive groves.There are some hills and after rain there may be a couple of easy streams to cross.

MARBELLA – ERMITA DE LOS MONJES
Walk
This walk climbs through a forest alongside a mountain stream to the ruined Ermita de los Monjes. It then emerges from the forest with great views of Marbella, Puerto Banús and across to Gibraltar and North Africa on a clear day.
Although not a long or particularly arduous walk it does involve some climbing over rocks, crossing of streams and a short section traversing a hillside with the help of fixed chains. Therefore walkers need to be sure-footed.

MARBELLA TOURIST OFFICE TO RIO REAL
Walk
Walk Participants will head east along the busy Marbella paseo maritimo following the orange trees and passing the Fishermen’s cottages and lockups. They will then continue along the paseo past chiringuito La Dolce Vita before entering the boardwalk along the sand dunes that leads towards Bahia de Marbella. Along the way participants will have sea views, and on the left, they will see various commercial enterprises, luxury urbanizations and the Rio Real golf course. There will be an opportunity to take refreshments at a chiringuito before returning along the same route.

LA MAIRENA TO OJEN MOUNTAIN TRAIL

This walk is located behind La Mairena and from the starting point this is a very pleasant country walk with fantastic scenery all around but there are some extended uphill sections leading up from the valley, fairly steep in places. There are many view spots where it is possible to stop and take in the views. This walk is on a good wide track easy to walk and without any difficulties underfoot.

JUANAR – EL TAJO NEGRO
Walk
A recently-added walk that starts from the Refugio de Juanar and passes the Ojén mirador before climbing to the peak of Tajo Negro (1,075m) which affords fine views of the Mediterranean and the North African coast on a clear day. The walk then descends to the Macho Montés mirador above Marbella before following a winding path through woods back to the starting point.

CABOPINO TO PLAYA DE CALAHONDA RIVIERA

From the parking area participants will walk around the picturesque Cabopino harbour and then take the completed boardwalk which runs alongside the back of the beach toward Cala de Mija and past the Torre De Calahonda. There will be an opportunity to stop at a chiringuito for coffee before the return via the same route.

This walk is from Monda to Guaro and back, taking the route over the old Roman road, through the valley along a track with a succession of climbs.

JUANAR CIRCUIT

The Juanar Circuit is a fairly short but sometimes steep walk around the back of the Refugio de Juanar hotel. After a steep climb the route drops down into a dry and rocky valley. A second climb follows before the final descent down a rough forest road to the Refugio.

CASTILLO SOHAIL TO LOS BOLICHES PLAYA, FUENGIROLA
Walk
Leaving the Parque del Castillo behind, with its castle resplendent on the hill, this walk embarks on the Fuengirola Paseo Maritimo. It crosses the Fuengirola river, passes the Puerto Deportivo and arrives at the Espigon de la T and then continues to Los Boliches playa. It passes a variety of street bars and chiringuitos, which in full season are a hub of activity. Return is by the same route after an opportunity for refreshments at a nearby chiringuito.

ALHAURIN el GRANDE – El FORESTAL via PALOMA GORGE

This walk starts at the El Mirador Hotel, winds up through the Camino Forestal in with views over the valley ending up at Forest Guard’s house. Most of this walk is in the shade of the pine trees and not too difficult ending back at the hotel for Christmas refreshments and tapas on the outside terrace. The first part is a steady climb that is not strenuous and loops around at a higher level.

ALHAURIN – LA BOLA DE MIJAS

This demanding hill walk climbs steeply through the pine forest above Alhaurín El Grande, passing the Casa Forestal, to the top of Pico Mijas (La Bola). Views at the top can be spectacular in all directions. The return is via a well-made access road that descwnds more gently to the start point. This walk is definitely for the fit walker.

This walk will pass through the pine forest and across heath land. Several inclines lead to two miradors which is Cerro Aliminos and then to Fire-Lookout post. From these points there are great views down to the coastline and surrounding countryside.

This walk is easy with only a few, quite gentle hills but is about 8 km long. There will be occasional stops to take in the wonderful views over Lake Concepción towards Istán and La Concha mountain.

A walk from the top of La Mairena to the shrine of Ermita del Rocio above Calahonda.The walk will be along both roads on the periphery of La Mairena and also tracks with panoramic views of the coast and mountains for much of the way.

There have always been popular walks in this area because of the stunning views of the Angosturas Gorge and Guadalmina River. The walks along the aqueducts are both peaceful and picturesque. An experience that should not be missed and a very good first walk of the season.

This walk begins at a bridge over the Rio Grande. It passes through some splendid countryside, halfway up a valley and is surrounded by hills. The walk affords great views across to Serriana de Ronda and back to Sierra Nieves.

COTO DE RIO GUADAIZA, LA ZAGALETA
Walk
This is an ‘out and back’ walk above the Guadaiza river. The peaceful trail meanders through pine woods and rocky outcrops and affords magnificent views of the surrounding unspoilt countryside and to the sea. The walk is rated easy to medium.

ESTEPONA, SIERRA BERMEJA – PASEO DE LOS PINSAPOS AND PICO LOS REALES – NEW WALK
Walk
A newly-added route around the Pico Los Reales (1452m) that dominates the skyline above Estepona. This is a new Country Walk, and affords fine views throughout. In addition, the drive to the meeting point on a well-maintained roads climbs up from Estepona to the Sierra Bermeja, it is spectacular.
There is a venta next to the meeting point that provides an excellent location for post-walk refreshments and food. Walkers can enjoy a lunch after it opens at 12.30 pm.

LA TROCHA – RIO PEREILAS AL-163, COIN
Walk
An excellent easy walk that takes you from the La Trocha shopping center through the farmlands with many small holdings down to the river walk, Sendero Rio Pereilas SL-A163, and then circles back over the Toblerone Bridge arriving back at the car park.

CHARCO DE LA VIRGEN – TOLOX
Walk
This is an out and back walk starting at the Fuente Amargosa Health Spa in Tolox. Although this needs an extra half hour’s drive to the start of the walk, the drive is scenic and the walk, although shorter than usual, is well worth it. There are numerous stepping stones at the four river crossings, but the river should not be too wide at this time of year.

PECHO de los LOBOS, ALHAURIN el GRANDE, SIERRA de MIJAS

This is a lovely circular walk around the Pecho de los Lobos on the western side of the Sierra de Mijas. There is about 80% shade and about 300m of climb for the first 3.4km. There are lovely views of the Sierra Alpujata; additionally, being surrounded by pine woods, it is very tranquil.

ISTÁN – PUERTO DE LOS BARRACONES
Walk
This walk initially follows Moorish irrigation channels and then passes through orange groves. About 2 km from the village, a path branches off to the left, passing through the trees at a higher level, avoiding the steep incline into Istan. The walk finishes at the Hotel Altos de Istan where refreshments and tapas are served on the terrace. This Hotel is also the meeting place, avoiding the previous long walk back from the Plaza.
