THE EGYPTIAN PERIOD – THE NEW KINGDOM
The two presentations are an overview of 3000 years of Egyptian architecture from 3200 BC with the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under King Narmer until Egypt became a Roman province. There will be a discussion to help clarify the timeline and historical events from the Old, Middle and New kingdoms and the correlation of the building enterprises of the Pharaohs.
Part Two – Middle and New Kingdoms
This presentation will focus on the period from the expulsion of the Hyksos until during the Roman domination of Egypt. This era is noteworthy for the Temple building activity that took place exemplified by the incredible buildings at Abu Simbel and those of Hatshepsut and Amun-re at Karnak. There will be a review of the New Kingdom, 1570-1069 BC with its capital at Thebes, analysing the typology of Temple Building which remained unchanged for almost 2000 years.
