COÍN – THE BLUE QUARRY

The walk "las canteras azules" starts close to the old Ciudad del Cine film studios from where it climbs gently through the pine forest. After a pause at the top of the incline the route follows a narrow, stony path high above the Barranco Blanco valley with steep scree slopes falling away to the left.

After a further short climb the route arrives at the summit and then proceeds to the aerial farm on Cerró Gordo for a lunch stop.  There are fine views in all directions at this point.  A wide, stony track then winds back down to the starting point.

Although the total distance and the amount of ascent on this walk are not particularly high, there are several sections along narrow, stony paths with steep drop-offs on one side.  These might represent a challenge for vertigo sufferers.  However, overall the route should not prove too challenging for reasonably sure-footed hill walkers.

From Marbella

Take the A355 past Ojén and past Monda. After the KM 12 sign take the turn off to "Camino de los Llanos" to the right. After 100 metres, at the junction, turn right again. Drive through the trees and after about 700 metres turn left (the first turn). After 400 metres there is a crossing with a big sign ‘Hotel Ciudad de Cine’. Park on the left immediately after the cross roads. This is the meeting place.

From Coín, Mijas

Take the A355 towards Marbella. After KM 11 take the turn off to "Camino de los Llanos" to the left.
