MONDA POLIGONO – CERRO GORDO LOOP – NEW WALK
This varied terrain walks through the orchards and pine forests near Monda.
Starting from the venta El Fogón de las Nieves in the Mondo poligono (Monda Glass) the walk begins with a short ascent along a concrete road skirting the factory buildings, It then turns right along a narrow path past orchards and smallholdings.
The path then passes through a tunnel under the A-355 before turning left along the stony riverbed of the Arroyo de Alpujata. Care is needed in this section as the path is rough underfoot in places.
The route then picks up a well-maintained forest road that ascends through the pine woods towards the upper slopes of the Cerro Gordo. This is the hardest part of the walk with a steady 20-minute climb which will be taken slowly.
Following this the route continues along the undulating forest road with fine views of Monda and the Sierra de las Nieves beyond before taking a left turn and descending more steeply to the poligono where refreshments can be taken at the venta.
