Walk

This is an ´out and back´ walk starting at Mijas village and up into the hills behind where magnificent views can be seen on a clear day. To enjoy the walk a reasonable level of fitness is required.

LAGUNA VILLAGE TO ESTEPONA

This Sandpiper walk is from Laguna Village to Estepona and return, using the boardwalk and bridge connecting Laguna Village to the Kempinski Hotel. Many more urbanisations and Hotels have now connected up their properties to make an interesting walk. The walk continues along the new boardwalk at the back of Carrefour into Estepona town to the Orchidarium and then return.

This route follows the boardwalks next to the beach and sand dunes, passes through pleasant streets and then through unspoilt countryside. There are some gradients and some rough ground but there is a stop on the crest of a hill overlooking the sea.

The walk is from the ‘Water-skier’ in front of the Marbella Tourist Office, adjacent to Da Bruno Restaurant and will go eastward to the Old Port and then on, with a short walk on the beach, to the new Boardwalk, which is now some 2 km long. The return is on the same route.

This walk has fantastic countryside with mountain views in the vicinity of Monda. It continues past the Monda castle towards the Gun and Country Club and then back to Monda via an old mule trail.

This walk will pass through the pine forest and across heath land. Several inclines lead to a mirador which is next to a fire lookout post. From this point there are great views down to the coastline and surrounding countryside.

The walk is from the far end of the Paseo at San Pedro, over the river to the boardwalk to Puerto Banus, through Banus to the clay path to Coral Beach, where, after a coffee break, the return is along a similar route. 9 Km

This is a circular walk up through the superb karstic canyon, El Canuto de la Utrera, and returning along the beautiful Ruta de los Molinos which runs alongside the Rio de Manilva. Towards the end of the walk a slight detour can be made to visit the Baños de la Hedionda and enjoy the sight and smell of the natural sulphurous spring. It is a tiny roman spa still used by the locals and reputedly the one which cured Julius Caesar of his scabies.

Las Huertas de Coín is a small hamlet in the countryside between Guaro and Coín. The walk is a circular route over the Rio Grande and past agricultural land. It has spectacular views of the Sierra de las Nieves.

A challenging walk to the peak of the mountain, la Cruz de Juanar (1.070 m). From the summit there are fabulous far reaching views on a clear day across to Africa. It is also usually possible to see the Sierra Nevada mountains.

This is a hard walk of about 5 hours total being 3 hours of ascent and 2 hours of descent. The route is from Ojén up to the Juanar walk so is a long climb. Members must ensure you have an adequate level of fitness before signing up for this hill walk. It is also important that sufficient equipment, food and water is brought.

This is an ‘out and back’ walk above the Guadaiza river. The peaceful trail meanders through pine woods and rocky outcrops and affords magnificent views of the surrounding unspoilt countryside and to the sea. The walk is rated easy to medium.

This is the reverse of the revised Country Walk in and around Istan. Walking from the Hotel Altos de Istán, the route goes down into the village and out the other side along a contour track and then gradually climbs up to a good road that heads south and leads back to Moorish irrigation channels that lead back to the village. There is a steep climb back to the Hotel carpark

The walk “las canteras azules”starts by taking an upwards path through a pine forest. After a pause at the top of the incline, the trail follows a single file, open, path high around the edge of a deep valley with steep scree slopes on the left (vertigo sufferers beware). There are fine views back to sea near Fuengirola.

This walk starts in Benahavis and follows along the boardwalk in the Benahavis Gorge, before crossing the gorge and climbing up to the old aqueduct. The walk then continues along the aqueduct before dropping down to the river and returning along a new trail by the river and then returning to the village by the boardwalk. The scenery is spectacular!

This walk initially follows Moorish irrigation channels and then passes through orange groves. About 2 km from the village a narrow track is taken passing over a stream by an idyllic wooden bridge before climbing steeply back into the village.
